My official going away party is scheduled for Saturday, January 14th in Brooklyn. I will be subletting out my place in NYC for the next seven months and will be spending most of 2012 in Berlin. I will still be available for the rare modeling assignment, but at this point photography has become my life and I'm pursuing dreams in that direction in Europe.

Finally I have a chance to exhibit works from my most recent photography project. I will be at Madame X on Wednesday, June 29 to display prints at an amazing erotic art event. Photos will be available for purchase and the live performances will be incredible. (94 Houston St in NYC

Here's an example of what will be in the show. I took this photograph yesterday while a videographer was in the studio with the model and I to document my process. I can't wait to see the finished results of his recordings of us!

January sucks! I've had about six shoots cancel this month -- I guess the snow is making New Yorkers too apathetic keep their commitments and anyone else in the Northeast too mistrusting of the weather to book.

I had the first of a weekend of workshops by Stan Goldstein today in Manhattan which has saved me from otherwise drowning this month. I worked with 20 photographers in eight hours, one lighting class of eight and three regular sessions with four people each. Caught a chill in the studio that I haven't been able to shake yet. Please, please, please don't let me get too sick to go back tomorrow!

That's the name of the eight foot boa constrictor I posed with today. I can't believe it took me this long to finally pose with a snake--that's been one of my dreams since I started modeling and something I've loved doing since being a little kid at another little kid's science museum birthday party. I exchanged information with the handler, because I'd love to shoot again with Mister Olympus or another one of his snakes. This guy is a professional with several large non-venomous snakes who have been tamed and are accustomed to being handled by children and models. I'm really hoping to find some more photographers in NYC who are interested in shooting me with snakes for a reasonable price, because I can't wait to see the boa again!!

Using my Tumblr more and more because it suits my too-lazy-to-explain-this-photograph attitude toward the blog world. Or the posting directly from my iPhone aspect. Show me your Tumblr and add me if you have one. I like the really streamline ability to see everyone's posts on my dashboard, which has me slightly neglecting my Google Reader after I get my photo fix over on that other site.

I'm headed to DC tomorrow on a BUS...which I know is weird because I haven't traveled to a shoot in the United States by bus since literally New Years 2006/7. My car is currently banked in a very respectable streetside snowdrift, which is so suitable I won't have to address the situation until next week. And it will be lovely to get some reading done instead of driving for once.

Workshop season kicks off at the end of January, but until then I'm finding myself with a bit too much free time. So now would be an excellent time to book me in NYC or somewhere in easy range.

Back from my exotic adventure! It's lying in bed in frigid New York for me, at least until tomorrow until I get to fly again. Thank you to Clark Smith for making the whole thing possible. We survived, as did all of our gear and our little Peugeot, which got a flat tire pulling into the return lot at Hertz but otherwise made it through mountains and rivers to our utter surprise.

Now if only Delta could stop giving me this busy signal about my missing bag of Christmas presents...

My hotel in San Jose has me locked out of the blog where these photos were originally posted (Artnudes.com didn't make it past the pornography check here, I guess). But fortunately I got Malcolm to e-mail me the results from this shoot since I couldn't dig it up on the web myself today!

I'm so exhausted after traveling some-1,000 km to the remote southern-most peninsula in Costa Rica and back in the past three days. I saw cool critters in the rainforest and this morning I swam naked with the dolphins in Golfito Dulce. I have loads of stories about our ambitious journey so far but it's time for bed! Tomorrow we're going to the Cloud Forest and volcanic region north of the capital after an extremely long drive on the PanAmerican Highway.

Time to pack! I somehow have to get myself to Newark at 6 AM to fly to San Jose via Atlanta. It's an eight day trip and I'm not buying any cellular data or international dialing, so updates from me will be contingent on wireless connections in Costa Rica. The photographer and I will be road tripping the entire time, trying to cover a lot of territory after spending the first night in Jaco and then traveling south along the Pacific.

My best friend Vanessa, who works with community radio in Philadelphia let me know about a fun protest in DC next Monday afternoon. She's looking for people to get involved and a photographer to document the event, so if you are available to shoot or know someone who might be interested, please pass this information on!

Hula Hoop Party on the Front Porch of the National Association of Broadcasters: Don't Make Community Radio Jump Through Hoops!

Join us for a huge hula hooping party in front of the biggest lobbyist for big corporate radio in the country on Monday, December 13th!

BACKGROUND:
Thousands of people nationwide have fought for 10 years to build community radio stations in their cities and towns -- low power FM broadcasts (LPFM) that allow community musicians, youth, immigrants, pastors, elders, artists, and more to share their voices and make their communities all the richer for it! LPFM stations saved lives after Katrina because they are nimble and easy to keep on the air when the power goes out. We want LPFM here in DC!

But big broadcasters at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) have fought to keep low power FM radio out of cities like DC. A bill that would expand low power FM radio nationwide is close to passing -- but the NAB have organized blocks against it in the US Senate.

Everyone from Ron Paul to Barney Frank, the Christian Coalition to the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, emergency responders to city councilpersons loves LPFM.

This may be our last chance -- if we don't win our new radio law in the next few weeks, we have to start over and chances look bleak.

The National Association of Broadcasters is hearing from thousands of folks that they should back off fighting community radio -- and they're starting to crack! We're organizing a big hula hooping spectacle in front of the NAB to let them know:

National Association of Broadcasters -- don't make low power FM radio jump through hoops anymore! Don't make our democracy a circus -- instead join us and celebrate the expansion of community radio!

WHEN:
Monday, December 13th. Gather at Dupont Circle at 11:00 for quick rehearsal, then we'll hoop over to the NAB at 1771 N Street NW. The action starts at NOON on the dot at 1771 N street NW, at the National Associations of Broadcasters!

WHAT:
Tons of hula hoopers and other celebratory circus performers! We'll have lots of hoops but bring yours too! Bring as many hoops, juggling devices, and costumes as you can!

WHO:
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is a powerful corporate lobby group that has been blocking a bill that would allow more community radio stations - specifically Low Power FM radio stations.

WHY:
Because the NAB broadcasters have been making us jump through so many hoops in Congress just to get a little slice of the airwaves for the rest of us, we want to stage the first ever Hula Hoop Party of the NAB offices near Dupont Circle on 17th and N streets.

Our message: "We invite the National Association of Broadcasters to celebrate the future expansion of radio with us. Stop making us jump through hoops. Let's pass low power FM now!"

HOW:
This isn't a protest with yelling and fighting -- this is a fun, friendly, celebratory spectacle. We invite hoopers, jugglers, fire spinners, circus performers, and anyone who is interested to join in on the fun. Dress stylish -- dresses, suits, costumes.

The opening last night was as successful as the after party was silly. Prints should be hanging until the 30th, so you still have a chance to go see me on the wall while I'm gone. I was so excited to see a lot of friends come out to support Shane and myself. And it was fun getting to know some talented South Bronx people this past week and exploring a local art scene there that was completely unknown to me.

So far this is the lightest I've ever packed for a trip overseas. Mostly beach stuff, no bras or panties. I've managed to compress into one large canvas tote for light dresses, bikinis, makeup and toiletries and a backpack for camera and laptop gear. After taking a lot of extra clothes to Russia that I didn't use and are still lying in the suitcase unpacked (!) I'm very proud of myself.

Starting to get some pre-travel excitement about being back in the tropics again. I'm often curmudgeon-y about travel up until the last minute when I remember how cool my destination will be. Australia, baby!

I will be double posting on this and the group travel blog for Figuremodels.org while I'm away.

Geelong, Australia - October 2009

This year has been going by so fast, I can't believe I'm headed back to Australia tomorrow! Between now and then I'm grateful for every second I have left on the ground. I'll be traveling from Saturday until noon on Monday with connecting flights in LA and Sydney before I reach Queensland, so keep me in your thoughts as I lose just a few days more off of my life to air travel. It's a short trip this year -- I'll be back in New York on the 21st, only to leave again two days later for a visit to Miami, thanks to my having racked up the flyer miles.

I'll be back on the 27th and then driving to DC for the Rally to Restore Sanity on the 30th, followed by a very special birthday party in Philly that night. With luck, I will have managed to put a Halloween costume together and be home in time to make up for missing my Halloween in NYC on a flight back from New Zealand last year.

My slideshow is done and I have plenty of time to pack tomorrow. All affluent New Yorkers are warmly invited to purchase prints from us tonight at the Clocktower Salon to put some duty free spending money in my pocket.

Going through ALL of my archives today digging up material for my presentation and looking at all kinds of photo media: pictures of me from hundreds of peoples' cameras, my work over the years, iphone and webcam snaps... I feel like such a hoarder, most of this will never leave my hard drives.
We're supposed to learn from past mistakes, but I have such an archivist's interest in preserving memory intact, it's hard to find fault in the old the same way I can easily find it in the new. A lot of images have grown on me to the point where, if I chose to rework them now I'd be committing an act of violence.

Enough masturbation, time to get back to work!

I picked up two books from the post office yesterday that made my day: Zoe Wiseman's Fiat Lux, which features photography of myself and my best model friends, and the collaborative book from Mission Beach, Australia our group put together based on last year's festival. I spent yesterday evening at the Clocktower "helping" Shane hang his show. The gallery space is really nice. See as many of you as possible on Friday!

Enjoying my last few minutes in Virginia as Tyler Keeler prepares a steak biscuit to tide me over until I reach New York City. I just finished the longest shower of my entire life as we were shooting multiple exposure in medium format. I feel like I unintentionally waterboarded myself in trying to get the shot!

Due to a major discrepancy in ticket costs between Friday and Saturday, I will be leaving for my next destination a day later than planned, which also enables me to make it to Shane's photography show in the Bronx the night of the 8th.

I got up early yesterday to drive to the DC area for some shoots. My first one was for a nude tarot card deck in Ellicott City, Maryland. After that a photographer who was interested in shooting me this weekend told me he was on his way to the Sly Horse Studio meet and greet in Rockville and we could plan our shoot there. This particular photographer never showed up as far as I know, but I stayed for six hours to mingle with some familiar faces and meet a few cool new people. The new facilities at the studio are impressive! I'm not too disappointed in how the day worked out after all, as I got some studio time with V and Kallia, both incredible girls who managed to blow my mind even in a group setting!

Occasionally I'll have the good luck of coming home to an apartment full of outstanding traveling models who are kind enough to volunteer some time for my camera. This is my birthday portrait on our roof. Sidney and I live together but don't shoot very often, so it's magical when we can get our acts together and do something!

My roommate is driving me to the airport in a few minutes, my man is babysitting my car and my wife will hopefully be waiting for me at Sheremetyevo when I land. Everything is perfect. Vacation time!

So exciting to have prints in hand!

Tried to go on another shooting adventure Sunday afternoon, but immediately got caught by security trying to get to our first location and then couldn't swim safely to our second spot.

This is the second spot - Bannerman's Island Arsenal. They do offer tours of the abandoned castle in the Hudson from a state park, but we thought it would be more exciting and cheaper (the violation ticket fee if caught is less that the cost of the boat ride and tour) to try to swim across the river. Still, getting around private property to the water and finding a spot to start swimming from was a challenge in itself and it was getting late when we finally got in the water. A tour boat came up and stationed itself nearby, so we decided to call it quits before getting more than a third of the way across.

I've been really swept up in my birthday week! Bought a new dress for tonight and got a spa manicure and pedicure yesterday that I immediately came to regret. I wasn't paying attention as all of the calluses were scrubbed off my hands and a few hours later was a throbbing, ripping, inflamed mess at the climbing gym. Soft hands are not for me anymore!

So I bought the new camera, my new iPhone came in the mail and for the first time in months my feet aren't black on the bottom from working shoeless in weird places. I'm a new, happy girl.

Because I've been so very good to me this year, I bought myself the Canon 5D mark II for my birthday and some new glass. Finally!

And I'm not the only one who is super good to me. Someone is full of sweet surprises, even if I have to risk my life and so-far clean criminal record to enjoy them. The rest of my birthday is going to be amazing and I'm looking forward to my party in the city on Saturday night!

All Stephen had to do was drive up and ask the owner of this serendipitous farmhouse if we could shoot at the gate of the property. Not only did she invite us in and give us the full run of the horse farm, she suggested we climb into her garden bed. Apparently Stephen was able to come back a month later and do a group shoot with 15 people or more, proving that--for all the sneaking around that we do--sometimes it really pays to ask nice.

When Edward and Kristina were visiting in May we got picked up from the Met in this creepy kidnapper's van and delivered to the East Village. Somewhere in 5:00 traffic on the way down 5th Avenue we decided to make the best of the situation and do a quick shoot.

Although I've been behind the wheel myself and not bouncing over potholes on the floor of a speeding vehicle, this pretty much describes my last two weeks of travel. I have plane tickets to buy, hotels to book, shoots to plan--but I'm stuck in the car, married to the road.

I'm staying off the road that leads to my old college. I got here late last night, so I failed to go by to see it. The population of Chapel Hill is so transient that I couldn't even think of an old friend to stay the night with; however, my favorite photographer from town was available and wonderful as always.

Five more shoots and then I'm home. I'm trying to stay in the city as much as possible in August since I will be abroad for six weeks in the fall--and if the past several months have been any indicator, I have a tendency to get a little more homesick than I'm used to now that I'm living somewhere I love. Day trips of reasonable driving distance are always exciting, so don't hesitate to ask me about coming to your area!

After spending the afternoon shooting on a farm near Greensboro, I hung out with my grandma's former preacher's daughter tonight in Charlotte at a place called Cabo Fish Taco. She was unexpectedly here visiting her extended family. For all that people complain about Facebook, I am so amazed for the way that it can bring us together--and grateful for those opportunities!

Tomorrow I'm bound for some place really cool. One of my favorites in this state. Stay tuned.

Lack of sleep caught up to me, and I fell asleep on the couch last night around 9 PM, waking up this morning at 10. I slept through my one opportunity to go birthday shopping (for me, of course) with my mom, but didn't sleep through my shoot! Six days in a row of waking up between 5 and 7 AM really did me in because I'm not much good at going to bed any earlier than usual when I have sunrise shoots.

I based this last week of travel bouncing around Virginia and these next few days before I get back to NYC loosely around the fact that I'd have to get my car inspected and North Carolina drivers license renewed before my birthday, which is a week from today. The guy at the DMV today congratulated me that I will actually be in my thirties before I have renew again. That's a good feeling--I mean, by the time I'm in my thirties I will be either successful enough to pay someone to stand in line for me or, alternately, I will have achieved some zen-like attitude to the world that makes me capable of facing those three hours spent in line with hateful people without the prerequisite week of whining about it. So, with all my obligations toward this beautiful state fulfilled, I'll be driving home on Monday.

Not so strange that I end up modeling even on my day off. Not so strange that I went somewhere with Shane and risked my life climbing something unquestionably dangerous. We did not arrive at the peaceful swimming hole in Platte Clove that we intended, but rather opted for climbing straight down several hundred feet of rock into a series of waterfalls. Later we visited Kaaterskill Falls, some of the tallest in NYS and found our swimming hole and an amazing view.

Where was I a year ago today? This is the first year out of the past three that I have not undertaken a road trip to the west coast and while part of me is a little sick of the humidity here, I'm glad to have the break so that I can appreciate my favorite spots more the next time I'm refueled enough to handle the massive organizational tasks of living on the road for months at a time. International travel and getting adjusted to life in New York has taken priority all year. With my car approaching 220,000 miles (remember I hit 200,000 shortly before my birthday in early August last year--I have certainly slowed down my car travel!) I may have no choice but to wait until it's time to break in a new vehicle to plan my next drive to California.

Still, the subject of staying put in NYC is largely an illusion, considering I leave Thursday to drive south and have only been back a week from New England. Yesterday I was driving all over North Jersey and tomorrow I'm thrilled that I have a day trip planned to the Catskills that is 100% non-work related.

Time to clean sand and subway dust off my back seats again.

Woke up this morning to find one of my car's back windows smashed in--broken glass, documents, and CDs littering the already-cluttered interior. One more reason why driving in Boston is a terrible idea. I got the fuck out of there after my shoot this morning to camp out in Rhode Island with a nice photographer who can house my car in his garage until the window can be repaired tomorrow. I'm beyond grateful.

Woke up way early this morning to get to Boston from NYC by noon, getting an oil change along the way. I had great shoots with Mr. Rodammer in MA and Mr. Gold in Pawtucket before landing in New Bedford for some quick rest before Mr. Pearl and I hit the beach for a sunrise shoot. New York was so full of cancellations last month, it's good to be on a roll somewhere else again. Still, I'm already missing that fucking city!
